A local peasant is taking over Skipton this 2026 Summer Holidays with her family friendly tour!
Stinkin’ Skipton Poster
Horrible Histories fans will love this brand-new summer tour, led by Smelda Brown, a genuine 1700s Skipton peasant.
The tour has been set up by the creators of the Skipton Ghost Tour, to bring a new, entertaining walk of the town and provide an activity the whole family will enjoy.
This 35 minute walk of Skipton will begin at the Castle Gates, where you’ll hear about what goes on inside the Castle and why Smelda isn’t too fond of the rich nobles who reside there. From there, you’ll follow Smelda through the streets of Skipton…
Hear about our lifelong affinity with sheep on Sheep Street and meet Smelda’s little friend, visit the yards of Skipton and discover one of the worst places to live once upon a time, find out about everything they used to dump in the canal (the smelliest part of the tour!) Meander over to Victoria Court and learn true stories about dragons and witches, before heading to the Canal Basin, where Smelda will tell you all about this big newfangled thing everyone’s been banging on about - the industrial revolution! Hear about what it was like for children at the latter end of the century and how it shaped Skipton.
“It’s going to be banging” - Smelda Brown, 1700s peasant.
Stick around to the stinkin’ end and you may even get to join Smelda in a little song! And if you’re cravin’ more horrible history, ask Smelda to give you a mates rates discount for the Skipton Ghost Tour, with her best mate, ‘The Butcher’…
Tickets are a measly £5 each and dogs are welcome to join. Smell ya later!
